We’re headed to Sacramento from March 10-12, 2022!
Registration is now open for our 2022 Annual Conference. Beginning in 2014, CalSPRA established a statewide annual conference that switched locations from northern to southern California each year. Moving forward, it is our goal to streamline the planning process and focus more on programming for our members. After carefully reviewing your feedback from previous annual conferences, we selected Sacramento as our northern location, specifically the Hyatt Regency Sacramento. We look forward to returning to Sacramento each even year (2024 is already in the works!). The location and dates of our 2023 conference will be announced at the 2022 conference.
Our 2022 conference will be March 10-12, 2022. We’ve heard from our members that more in-depth learning time is needed, so we are adding a half-day to our conference this year to allow for both breakout sessions and longer format workshop/skill lab sessions. The 2022 conference will begin Thursday morning at 9:00 a.m. (registration 8 a.m.). The conference will end Saturday afternoon at 12:30 p.m. We encourage those traveling into Sacramento to arrive on Wednesday evening (March 9th) since the conference starts at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday. Travelers can book the hotel room block conference rate ($185/night) starting Wednesday night. (Early travelers can register Wednesday night from 3:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m.)
Also new this year will be a pre-conference PR Boot Camp to help broaden your strategic thinking and sharpen your communication skills to be ready for the many challenges school leaders face on a daily basis. Our pre-conference Boot Camp will cover research-based best practices in internal and external communication, crisis communication, measuring the value of school PR and templates for building a variety of strategic communication plans. Whether you’re new to your PR/communications role or you’ve been practicing PR for a while without formal training, this half-day session is designed to help.
Ideally situated across from the stunning and lush 40-acre California State Capitol Park - and surrounded by restaurants, shopping and nightlife - the recently redesigned hotel places you in a serene urban oasis within walking distance of Capitol Mall, Crocker Art Museum, Old Sacramento Waterfront and more. Enjoy the expansive resort-style pool deck, savor an exquisite dinner beside an outdoor fireplace, or take in the city skyline views from your guest room.
We have many exciting things planned and we will be updating you regularly about programming, keynotes, call for presenters, and awards in the near future. Conference topics members shared in our recent member survey are being carefully reviewed and will include a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion, crisis communications, and promoting our profession. For now, registration for the conference and hotel rooms are open so please visit the subpages to the left for details and to secure your spot at the premiere conference for California school communicators.
